OHIO DEPARTMENT OF REHABILITATION AND CORRECTION BECOMES FIRST JURISDICTION IN THE UNITED STATES TO PROVIDE BREAKING FREE FROM SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Global Tel Link (GTL) has partnered with Breaking Free Group to introduce Breaking Free from Substance Abuse across Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC). Since launching in May 2020, the program has provided Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to over 15,000 inmates with drug and alcohol dependence across 22 facilities, demonstrating its ability to deliver behavioural support at scale.

The high levels of inmate engagement at ODRC are already producing demonstrable improvements in substance dependence (in 54% of the inmates), mental health (63%), and a range of protective factors against reoffending, including thinking skills (65%), emotional regulation (62%), impulse control (56%) and resilience (61%).

ODRC is now in the process of extending access to the Breaking Free program to the inmates of a further 6 adult prisons and 3 juvenile facilities, meaning the rollout will encompass a total of 31 correctional facilities across the state.
