Breaking Free Group has launched a fully-localized Canadian version of the UK's leading digital behaviour change program for substance dependence, Breaking Free from Substance Use.
Accessed at breakingfreeonline.ca, the new program includes a Canadian English voiceover that guides users through every screen. The Canadian French version, with full language translation and voiceover, will be coming on stream very soon.
Facilitated by our partners Ontario Telemedicine Network (otn.ca), the first service in Ontario to utilize Breaking Free is House of Sophrosyne (sophrosyne.ca), an organization dedicated to helping women across the Windsor-Essex area who are being affected by substance misuse. This region, like many other areas of Canada, has been significantly affected by the current opioid crisis.
Alongside this, the first deployment of Breaking Free in British Columbia is at the Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addictions in Vancouver, where it has been commissioned by Provincial Health Services Authority (phsa.ca) and is being delivered as part of an innovative Contingency Management program.
Dr Jonathan Ward, Managing Director at Breaking Free Group, commented: “We are very excited to be launching Breaking Free in Canada, and to be starting with such forward-thinking organizations as House of Sophrosyne and PHSA. With the expert assistance of OTN, our evidence-based digital intervention can now increase people’s access to effective recovery support and strengthen the work of Canadian healthcare providers and addiction services in addressing the opioid epidemic and rising methamphetamine use.”
